The original U47 FET was released in 1969 and gained massive popularity inside recording studios for its ability to handle fast transients and high SPLs. Fun facts: The original U47FET was actually Neumann's second attempt to fix their supply chain issue impacting the U47 when the metal tubes in the U47 disappeared. Their first effort resulted in the U67 mic, using glass tubes in 1960. Nine years later, Neumann was able to use the same capsule (K47) and similar housing/circuit design but with a powerful FET instead of a tube. Thus, the U47FET was born.
